All Desires are Holy

Every desire is holy, properly understood. Every desire, when analyzed as to its symbolic meaning, is a desire for the infinite. Every desire for the finite has a tendency to become a short-circuited desire for the Infinite. Notice what it is that you want. A car? You want a car to travel in. You want a car to reach a destination and meet yourgoals. But where are you going to go? And what for? A car is okay but it won’t get you where you want to go happiness-wise. The Infinite is not even in time and space. The Infinite is the Consciousness in which time and space exist. The Infinite is everywhere, within and without. But the journey moves in both directions, to inner depth and outer depth. Depth is spirit. Without depth you will only reach the surface and you will never be satisfied. You need a car for your finite trips and goals, but you need a different mode of travel to reach Infinity.. Here it is not a matter of miles or gasoline but of awareness. It costs nothing except your ego story. The destination is your center. You travel there by awareness. Ultimately, the desire for a car is the desire for a journey, which is a desire for God. Every desire, when analyzed correctly, is holy. Every desire which falls short of the target of Infinity is experienced as lacking.
