Boredom Does Not Exist

Boredom Does Not Exist

What is surprising is that there is nothing to criticize about or complain about or nag about. The world you see out there is just an interpretation you are making according to an inner belief system which is not real. What a waste of energy!

We are highly ambivalent about what we call “reality”. We cling fiercely to it on the one hand, and are scared spitless that it is real, on the other hand. But you don’t have to worry, because neither of those reactions is relevant. To cling to reality is not appropriate because we don’t know what reality is, and we cannot control it in the way that we imagine, and the appropriate reaction to reality is to say “I wonder that this means.” If you cling to it or resist it, you won’t find out what it is.

We don’t know what reality is because the split second it occurs, we put a label on it, as something to hold onto or reject. We rarely find out what reality is due to our ignorance. We ignore the fact that reality is either grace or a teaching.

Whatever happens to us is Infinite Grace, wearing a mask of either plus or minus, right or wrong, good or bad, safe or dangerous, worthless or worthwhile, relevant or irrelevant. These opinions make it unlikely that we will see anything for what it is—the Infinite Good.

So everything in this mindset we are caught up in is either plus or minus, with virtually no neutral or infinite. Neutral might seem to be slightly better in some cases than plus or minus, but it often means just an uncertainty as to whether it is plus or minus. Infinite is far beyond plus, minus or neutral.

Our most appropriate choice about any event in our lives is to ask “What is this?” or “What does this mean?” Those questions open the door of opinionated judgment and allow for the possibility of Grace. If you don’t ask, you don’t receive the truth of it. If you do ask, the Universe answers.

It is humiliating to the ego to admit it doesn’t know. Humiliation is thus necessary to enlightenment. Egg on your face is perfect. Just let yourself feel it. It hurts good. Realize that you don’t know and that is the best news possible. “Don’t know” and its accompanying anxiety is Good News, the beginning of wisdom. What is the Good News about this apparent tragedy, nuisance, annoyance, boredom, or pain?

What is the good news, for example, about boredom? Let’s use our question “What is this?” What is boredom, then? Boredom is repetition. We tell ourselves nothing new is happening, nothing important is happening, nothing interesting is happening. There has never been a repetition.

Everything is new, important and interesting, except our state of mind. We’re not present. We are not here now. We are just re-living a dream. Come into the Eternal Present, and you will see and know the wonder of it. The Infinite is present in the Now. All potentialities are present now. Worlds we have never seen are present in this Now Moment. We have rarely ever been here. We live in a dream called the past or the future. We are not in reality. That is what boredom is, thinking we are living in repetitious reality. Reality is peaceful, fascinating, ever-changing, renewing, invigorating, interesting, and transformative. Reality is Grace. Reality is all you ever could want and didn’t know you have it.

If you could know reality or win the lottery, which had you best choose? 99% of the time we would choose the lottery out of our ignorance. That is the choice we make every day. We choose the symbols of the good instead of the Good Itself. The symbol comes and goes, and never satisfies completely. The symbol can be given or withheld, gained or lost. Grace itself cannot. Infinite Grace is reality. The Infinite Good is reality. Infinite Grace is here now. Choose it and enjoy the lottery or not. The lottery is only a passing symbol of Infinite Grace. Infinite Grace is yours, the lottery you may win or not, you may spend wisely or foolishly.

Infinite Grace is your lottery, and you have won it. The Infinite Good or Grace is yours and always has been forever. Its seeming absence is what makes you crazy, anxious, angry, depressed. It is only absent in your story about reality. Enlightenment is awakening from that story, that dream, that self-deception, that lie. Pain or anxiety is the teacher that awakens us.
